This is what IDEA, the Federal Special Education law, refers to as a “Direct Parent Referral.” In other words, if you suspect your child has Dyslexia, you may ask your school to provide an evaluation which is conducted to determine eligibility for special education services. Public schools cannot “diagnose” your child.
